Kilians D-I-E - Shops open on a Sunday?!

Describe

When I remembered that I have to buy some stuff on a Sunday afternoon I talked with my friends about it. They looked strangely at me and ask me "Well, why don't you go? Shops are open on Sundays here". This is true for most bigger grocery stores.
That would be impossible in Bavaria, where shops are open from seven or eight in the morning to usually eight in the evening, with only very few exemptions.

Interpret

I guess Finnish people aren't as much influenced by religion in generell compared to Bavarians. In Bavarian the catholic religion is strongly rooted into society. This means that in Bavaria the Sunday is regarded as a holy day, which is why working on a Sunday is not usual. Maybe it is because the Finnish peoples religion is predominantly lutheran?

Evaluate

Both approaches towards Sunday have their advantages and disadvantages. While it is very nice to have a synchronized day off, allowing families to do stuff together, being able to buy groceries on a Sunday is also very nice, especially if you forgot to buy something important during the week.

  5. In czech is really usual that you can always find a shop which is open 24/7 on Saturday or Sunday. Also during public holidays you can still find 24/7 shops.
