Describe

I went to Kokkola with my mother in the last week of August. We rented a pretty house in the city for almost a week to spent some time together and to allow me to move in without any problem. During the evening, after dinner, we use to watch TV for a while. At the beginning it surprised me to see that some channels are in English, we don't have this in France. But what surprised me more was during ads time... there is an advertisement with a Child, a little blond girl, who looks sad in front of her plate because she have to eat peas for lunch. But suddenly someone come and give her a plate full of French fries and a Hamburger. Then she became happier. In fact, this ad shocked me, it would be scandalous to see this in France I think.

Interprete

In France there is a campaign since a few years for living healthy.

When there is ads about food it’s written on the bottom of it:

 

“Pour votre santé, évitez de manger trop gras, trop sucré, trop salé”

"For your health, avoid to eat too fat, too sweet, too salty"

« Pour votre santé, mangez au moins cinq fruits et légumes par jour »

"For your health, eat at least five fruits and vegetables a day"

“Pour votre santé, évitez de grignoter entre les repas” 

"For your health, avoid to snack between meals"

« Pour votre santé, pratiquez une activité physique régulière »

"For your health, practise a regular physical activity"

 

 

Every time you switch on the TV or you are taking trains, there is ads and you can see those catch phrases. I think that everybody in France knows those phrases by heart. Even when I was a kid there were ads like that but for children on kid’s channels. So when I see this little girl who is not really skinny changing healthy meal for this kind of menu on the TV, it looks totally against French morality.

Evaluate

Living in Finland for few months after seeing this ads make me understand that the country cares about people’s happiness and doesn’t look really worried about obesity issues. When you make groceries, you finish by a huge candies shelf, it is almost the eye of the needle when you go to the register. Also at the cafeteria you usually eat meal with a lot of sauces. Sometimes there is even more sauce than something else. It look hard to stay skinny when you live in Finland... Actually since we (exchanges students) are here, a lot of people told me they were getting fat.

Music Assignment

 

Mönni or Mönnimafia is a Punkrock group band. It was formed in May 2014 in Helsinki. Those five guys are making their own music and songs with original influences: Vivaldi, Beethoven, Chopin & Jaakko Teppo. They combine those influences with their own band's signature.

On the 29 of October they were in Kokkola at the West Coast Billiard. I went there with friends to enjoy this concert  and discover what kind of music is punk rock. They have a really funny style by clothes they wear during concert.

Their music is really dynamic but their lyrics are screamed and you feel that they are hungry about something. The songs are in Finnish so I couldn't understand but they look like rebellious teenager.

Their catch phrase is:
"Tämä on enemmän kuin totuus,
tämä on enemmän kuin elämä,
tämä on Mönnimafia"

meaning :

"This is more than the truth,
This is more than life,
This is Mönnimafia"

Good morning !

My name is Margaux LEMOINE, I am 19 years old and I come from France.

 

I am an exchange student, here in KOKKOLA for only a semester.

I study International Business at ESCE in Paris.

 

I love traveling, discover new cultures, different ways of life. Since my youngest age I discover the world from museum in Paris so now that I am in Finland I want to live a different culture than mine.
