I went in Helsinki couple of week ago, especially to see in live a great finish DJ who was playing in a nightclub. I do not know the name of the DJ, but the Label who use to produce him is : Helsinki Jungle Mafia.
Shortly ; I am a huge fan of electronic music, and i did know that Finish music culture ain't about electronic music, but more about "classic music" ( Instrumental ). So i made some deep research in order to get more information ; Do the finish people listen this kind of music ? and if so , where do they spend their nights , floating away under the deep and aggressive sound of the "Drum and Bass".
And finally , i found a concert event, introducing the Label "Helsinki Jungle Mafia" , and i was not disappointed.
The nightclub was crowded , and the vibes was good. Finish people do really enjoy this kind of music, that is not originally from Finland. They are more used to the Big Show EDM ( Electronic Dance Music) , with Summer festival in Helsinki, with big names such as Tiesto, or Steve Aoki.
I was surprised that finish crow was getting crazy under this made in Finland Drum and Bass, and it was a night i will definitely remember. :)

Music assignment
The instrument itself was invented in the 1800s and became an essential part of the variety of folk traditions. However, Antti Paalanen doesn't play the traditional, meaning ordinary, music. He created his own style and gave it a new name - breathbox.
It was exactly this new approach that caught my attention on the Centria Night Music event in the end of September. I didn't expect anything new from the traditional instrument performance, but that one delightfully surprised me.
So, next time, I intentionally went to the Corner's pub to listen to his play. The place was really crowded which isn't common in Kokkola. With the first sounds of the accordion everyone went to the dance floor.
Check this song out!
The point is that it is really difficult to categorize Antti's music: not "folk", not "alternative". Something really special which is worth to hear once than to read twice.
I really loved this unique, mesmerizing sound. Hope, everyone will enjoy it!

MUSIC ASSIGNMENT
Last year, I went to the concert, Centria Night Music event. It was my first time in a concert and that was so great when I could enjoy opera and classical music, which I really like to listen to. Perhaps, that was my first time in concert, hence I couldn’t compare whether those performances were good and fine. In my view, that were so amazingly, I was really like that moment it was like” lie back and enjoy” literally.
Other those performances mentioned above, they also played pop music with cover some beat, some were Finn songs and some were English ones, they were good either. At the end, I felt a bit pity, however, all performers gave a wonderful moment for me and I will come there in the next time.

Today I was in Helsinki and I could see The Rock Church, this church is amazing because is building in the Stone.
I was lucky because when I arrived there I saw a classic concert with opera, was incredible to be there.
The opera singers where Korean but the kind of music was Finnish. The acoustic sound is really good there.
I really love the music there. I could have my change to listen great compositors like Samuel Barber, Gioachino Rossini and others great compositors in the history of the humanity
Also the singers were doing really good. They sang the Finlandia Hymni and was really beautiful to hear was a good experience to be there

Music Assignement
When I went to Helsinki during the autumn break, I went to see a concert
of JVG, more known as Jare &VilleGalle. This is a rap duo made with Jare
Joakim Brand and Ville-Petteri Galle. They are both born in 1987 and come from Helsinki,
Finland.
The band was created in 2009 and their first album went out in 2011.
Today they have four albums.
This is not the music I usually listen but I enjoy the experience. I
just wish I could understand the lyrics.
Music Assignment
I visited
West Coast club in Kokkola this Saturday (29.10.) because of concert of one
Finnish band- MÖNNI. This music band from Helsinki plays punk/punkrock/hardrock
and has 5 members: Pekka Monni (Bass guitar), Mopo Vartiainen (drums), Mika
Keimo (guitar), Peto (guitar) and Raivo-Elvis (singer). These guys write and
make their own music and all of their songs are in finnish.
I have never been in a hardrock concert before, so I was curious how the music and atmosphere will be. Before concert I was listening some of Mönni´s songs which I found in youtube and I really started look forward to it.

The concert was to begin at 22:00, but I came to West Coast
quite later- around 22:40.
I entered and
to my surprise....no band, no live music, no crowded club!
The concert was
over!! I was shocked, because usually when I go to concert in Czech, a band is
playing for more than 2hours!
So I am really disappointed that I missed my first hardrock
concert...(and also- of course- that I am not able to accomplish this Music assignment.)
But.... during holidays I visited Helsinki and one music
band was playing in the middle of the street. I know that this is not a real concert,
but I was listening to them for more than 30minutes I think. Their music was
amazing - 5 young boys were playing famous songs in their own way (so covers)
only with trumpets, trombone, tuba and drums. Atmosphere was great, many people
who were just walking around stopped and started to listen the music (few of
them started also singing and dancing). Unfortunattely I have no idea what the
name of this band is, because it wasn´t written anywhere. I just know that I
really enjoyed their show as well as many passerby.
Here in this video you can see one of the songs that band was
playing.
(Original song: Get Lucky from Daft Punk)

Music Assignment
On the 30th of September, I visited the Centria Night Music event.
There was a lot of different genres, from traditional Finnish music to Jazz improvisation and classical music.
I was very surprised to see my room neighbour play the violine. Just a few days ago I met him at Sauna, where I had the chance to talk to him.
They all study music and sometimes they play in the Corners pub. They also don't play in just one band, but in a few different bands.

The traditional Finnish music was very interesting, espescially when five people were playing their kanteles simultaneously.
It was nice to hear the classical music being played since it included some compositions from famous German and Austrian composers, like Beethovens "Für Elise". I will definitly visit the pub when my roommate and his friends are playing.

Music Assignment - Huilan Jin
The Insomnium band was formed in the cold spring in 1997. In Finland's small town, Joensuu, four young people set up a heavy mental band. In the beginning, the band has defined their musical style, cruel and melody. They combine their favorite elements with their own band's unique style. Most of the lyrics come from the Finnish folklore that can be seen everywhere, which is about love and sad story of death.
On the Oct 8th,I went to Helsinki to enjoy this concert with my friends. In the beginning of concert,I felt the atmosphere immediately was brought to the boiling point.I have always loved these types of music, because I think their songs really show The real sing the darkness and fear of beauty.
The band members included:
drummer:Markus Hirvonen
guitarist:Ville Friman and Ville Vänni
Bass player:Niilo Sev leader singer:auml;nen

Music Assignment - Wang Jie
I love this band because of its unique melody and strong storytelling. Actually it is well worth hearing if one has a taste for Nordic death metal that is beautifully, unapologetically melodic. When one thinks of Scandinavian metal, Finland has turned out to be an impressive player — impressive for black metal, impressive for folk metal, impressive for goth metal, and impressive for death metal. All in all, Insomnium have gave a summary of the melodic side of Finnish death metal.
The composers of most songs in this concert are Niilo Sevänen (bass/vocals) and Ville Friman (guitar).

Music assignment by Oriol Fabregas
Last Saturday (22th of October) there was a really nice concert in Kilta Bar made by a local group called Kaiku. As it is typicall here, all the pubs and bars give to small groups the chance to show their ability to play wonderful music and help the young people of the bar to have a great time. The band consisted on a nice soothing voice female singer and two instrument players. One musician was playing the saxofon and the other the acoustic guitar.
They didn't play an exact type of music because during all night they were displaying all kind of themes. The majority of songs played were classic 70s-80s-90s rock and pop hits. Some examples are Every Breath You Take by Police, Hotel California by Eagles and Have You Ever Seen The Rain by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
They also played Finnish music which all the people of the bar fully enjoyed by singing the lyrics. That was what I liked the most in the concert because you feel really an stranger when everybody is singing a song in a pub which you don't even understand a word. To sum up, I truly enjoy the concert and they made me have a nice time with the company of other students

Pauline's Music Assignment
Last Friday I went to see a Finnish band, together with a few of Centria's Exchange Students. The band was from Centria and all the members were clearly students. There was a drummer, guitarists (electric, bass and acoustic), a violinist, a pianist and a background singer. They played songs from the Foo Fighters together. Their style was mostly rock. The lead singer was Tiia Katajamäen.
What I liked most about the concert, was the enthusiasm of the band members. They were really enjoying the gig and they were excited to let us hear their version of the songs.
The band consisted of Tiia Katajamäki - lead singer, Tommi Miettinen - guitarist, Miika Arvola - guitarist, Esa Hakkarainen - bassist, Matias Källi - pianist, Juhani Koskinen - drummist, Krista Kairaneva - violinist & Piritta Savolainen - background singer. As I mentioned earlier, they played songs by the Foo Fighters, mostly rock music.
What was very unusual for me, was that we received ear plugs when we entered. Also, the audience didn't really stand up when they applauded and during the concert everyone was quiet and sitting down without movement.
It was a new experience for me to be at a concert in Finland and it was definitely worth it.

Music assignment
I went event called FOO FIGHTERS Tribute where was a Finnish singer Tiia Katajamäen B-näyttökonsertti at the Conservatory.

Firstly I have to say when I came to this event I was really suprised that I got earplugs, It is very unsual to get it on concert in my country. Secondly in my country we are not sitting when we are on rock concert. So the begin of concert was pretty confusing for me.
But after Tiia and her band started sing, everything was alright. She has a nice voice so It was comfortable to listen this concert. As I mentioned in the first paragraph she was singing songs of american band called FOO FIGHTERS. It is the rock band and their songs are petty famous. So It was pretty amazing listen this music which I know and compare it with Finnish singer.
Finally, I was satisfied that I could be part of this event.

MUSIC ASSIGNMENT
Last Sunday evening,Insomnium held a concert in the live house named circus in Helsinki.I don't know him very well, even though he is very famous in Finland. So I researched some information online about him.
Insomnium(the band) was formed in the cold spring of 1997.In a quiet town of Joensuu, the most eastern part of Finland, four young men set up a heavy metal band.At first, the band has made it clear about their music style, cruel but with melody. They put various elements of their favorite band into their own unique style of the band, the result is very strong melody Metal Scandinavian with the traditional Finland folk tunes. Most of the lyrics drawn from the Finland folk legends in everywhere, about love and death of the sad story.
Their musical style is rock and roll。Although I can't understand finnish,I couldn't understand the meaning of lyrics even some songs in English,I was shocked by their explosive power.I can feel their thoughts in the melody. This band is worthy of being followed.Maybe I will love them gradually.

MUSIC ASSIGNMENT
Legendaariset Kulmalla – jamit!
This event is not typical concert, it is jamit - it means that during the whole evening come to perform a lot of different bands to play and show to audience this show. In the picture below is band which never used to play in this group before. Every participant had some musician idea. They were combine them to play together. So it was new experience not just for us as a watchers but aslo for musician themself. Composers: Miikka Immonen - Guitar/Vocal, Tummi Miettinen - Piano, Olli Sippola - Bass guitar, Oskari Paakki - Drums, Severi Hietala - Saxophone, Timo Hatva - Acoustic guitar.
On Wednesday
21.9.2016 I had a chance to visit jam sessions in Corner’s pub in Kokkola. In
the place was prepare a lot of instruments as electric guitar, piano, drums or
microphones. When I came to pub the atmosphere was brilliant. I felt like in a
home concert. The event visited especially young people who were member of some
band or part of musician studies here in Centria. They were mostly singing in English
language and famous song around the world so it was easy to understand. Music
genre was mostly blues, country, rock, pop. Singers were mostly amateurs but
whole performance was perfect. Performers were taking turns one after another. That’s why the concert was various and not so
usual. If should I summarize whole concert it was in one word perfect. I am
looking for another concert in Finland.
Small sample
