Music Assignment - Wang Jie

At 8 pm on October 8, there was a concert held in a live house of Helsinki which is called the circus. The performer was ” Insomnium”, a very popular band in Finland. In the concert, everyone was cheering, screaming and swinging and was deeply impressed by the songs.

Insomnium is a melodic death metal band from Joensuu, Finland, whose music also reveals links to other, neighboring metallic subgenres like doom, melancholy, and dark metal. It originally formed in 1997. And their stable lineup consists of Niilo Sevänen (bass/vocals), Ville Friman (guitar), Ville Vänni (guitar), and Markus Hirvonen (drums). 

I love this band because of its unique melody and strong storytelling. Actually it is well worth hearing if one has a taste for Nordic death metal that is beautifully, unapologetically melodic. When one thinks of Scandinavian metal, Finland has turned out to be an impressive player — impressive for black metal, impressive for folk metal, impressive for goth metal, and impressive for death metal. All in all, Insomnium have gave a summary of the melodic side of Finnish death metal.

The composers of most songs in this concert are Niilo Sevänen (bass/vocals) and Ville Friman (guitar).

D-I-E, Pay the Bill in the Supermarket

There was such a situation that I wanted to pay the bill in the market and it was 4, 60€. So l looked at my wallet and gave the cashier 5, 60€. I thought the cashier would return me 1€. Because in China if I give the cashier 5, 60€, they will back to me 1€ (only one coin). However, it is different in Finland. In reality, the cashier returned me 0, 60€ directly. Afterward she collected 5€ and returned me 0, 40€. It was much more troublesome to get the change twice. 

Interpret 
In my opinion, the main reason is that the cashiers in Finland often use the machines to calculate so that it would be easier to collect money and give the change according to the machines (There is less possibility of error). On the contrary, some people think that 1€ is only one coin and it is easier to recognize the correct number and used as the change. In addition, chanting out the result while doing the sums in one's head may be easier in some other countries because of reading matter and calculation method.

Evaluate
It puzzled me a lot at that time. The coins are heavier than paper,so I don't like to have too many coins in my hand. All in all, the custom of paying the bill in Finland unfitted me.
