Course Concepts

Great that you have chosen to get insights into Finnish Society and Culture!

ASSESSMENT: is based on activity, responsibility & quality in assignments as well as activity during class time. Filling in the Learning goal questionnaire is compulsory (10%). All tasks need to be done to get a good grade. Not returning a task gives the grade 0. Late posting gives grade -1.
0-5 Scale.

BLOGGING: We will use this platform for the course. You will find information, tasks etc here. The blog is also the place where you will post your assignments and reflections, unless instructed otherwise. Remember to use labels, which makes it easier to find your tasks in the blog.

CLASS TIME: We expect you to be present during class time - Mondays at 8:00-10:40. This is the time when new topics are introduced, presentations are made and new learning methods are tried. If you are sick, send me an e-mail so that I know that you are on board. Ask from your classmates about assignments. You are not allowed to be away more than 3 times to get a pass from the course.

CULTURE EXPERT: We will have culture experts taking the class. They are Finnish students who can help you understand and learn how "Finland works".

KOKKOLA: We will visit different places around town during the course.  A school, a company, + somewhere else :-)  Always check where the meeting point is for the visit!

LEARNING: will take place in many different ways. Some will be research-based, collaborative in small groups, by reading, by listening to lectures, by making a video and visiting interesting places or talking to people.

LEARNING GOAL QUESTIONNAIRE: is compulsory (Assessment 10%) and will help you in reaching your own learning goals. You will fill it in 3 times.
Learning goal 1/3

MEET & EAT. Participate one time in Meet & Eat. Sign up!

READING: The course will also include some independent reading. The reading is the base, from where you can build your understanding and knowledge further.

SHARE: All findings will be shared in this open blog!

TEACHERS: Linda Krokfors will be your pilot during the journey. Miikka Immonen is doing his teacher training and is your co-pilot for 2 classes.

TEAMWORK: Collaborative learning is central in the course. You will do research together and publish your findings in different ways.

Looking forward to working with you!
