D-I-E time schedule of public transport

One of the things that surprise me more was the information given about public transportation.

DESCRIPTION:

I was living in Espoo and eventually had to make many trips to Helsinki or near-by places so I needed to use public buses. As I ask Friends how to know which bus to take, they told me to check on the internet webpage reittiopas and that was it. All the information needed was in there from the nearest bus stop to take the bus, to where to jump off ! it describes which bus stop I will go trough and includes a map with the route. all easy and clear.

INTERPRETATION:

I don't really know if this system is used in other countries  (which may be) but I guess that due to the hard climate in here it should be a must already, as it is not nice to freeze outside waiting for a bus to come . This added to that Finnish people is really punctual, they need to know at what time they will arrive. Also as buses don't go the whole night, when you go to a party or a far place, you can see which is the last bus you can take back home, so you can prepare your whole day schedule with that.

EVALUATION:

It happened too that in the buses stop, all the timetables of each bus is printed and you can see them on the wall, with the exact minute they are coming trough. how amazing is that ?! I checked too and yes they come the exact same minute is write in the paper. So if you get there one minute late, you already know that you have to wait 15 or 30 minutes for the next one. this of course is a really nice system, but anytime you go to another country, I guess the system wont be the same and would be not so nice to get used to that. besides what if there is any mishap? would be a pity and confusing  to wait for a bus that is not coming.

  1. The time table is really the thing I like, but there is one thing bother me a lot that in the bus they don't notify the stop we are going to or reached, so I have to open my GPS on my phone to know when I should drop off when I go to somewhere I have never been.

  2. The name of the next stop is shown on a board on most buses in Helsinki. It's in the front, close to the ceiling.
