Take all the time you need
DESCRIPTION
I am a first year student and have never been to Finland before so now it seems logical to discuss education. When I came here the most surprising thing for me was finnish educational system and general attitude to studies here. During my first week each teacher asked me and my groupmates about how we want our final asessment be like - whether it will be a written test, presentation, final project etc. And our opinions were listened to and taken into consideration! The second thing that was new to me is that timetables for assignments are rather vague - it is ok if you do your work in your own pace. This is especially helpful when doing lab work,
INTERPRETATION
In my country the whole educational process is based on competition between students. Those who can not cope with studying material fast, are often left behind. It is a common situation when you are introduced to a deadline that ends tomorrow. For the first two weeks here in Finland I have been studying like I used to. Later I realised that I actually have time to do everything without being in a hurry.

As for me, patience and respect are the key characteristics of finnish mentality. This explains a lot about how things are handled here. Speaking about education, it is clearly seen in how teachers and students communicate and how the whole process is made. In my opinion, taking an individualistic approach is much more effective because all students are different in their personalities.
Exactly, we have the similar system in Czech and I was first 2-3 weeks studying like I used to, like you. But we do not have so many aasignments in my country, especially these teamworks. So It is nice to get this experiance with this school system.
ReplyDeleteYes, the same thing with group work in my country
Deletei'm reeeallly not used to do assignments with someone else and still prefer to work on my own
After studying in Ukraine/Russia, every other educational system seems to be "fluffy-puffy"
ReplyDelete100% true
DeleteCompletely true! I have a competitive educational system in my country, too. And we have always more and more exams. It is really good to experience the education system here
